Learning about China

photo

We have been learning about China in our class.  Everyone did their project on animals of China. Some animals we looked at were the Chinese Alligator, the Giant Panda, the Golden Monkey and the Viper snake.  many of these animals are endangered. We did a China ABC. Each person did a letter of the alphabet and did a Chinese word to go with the alphabet.  Millie did D for dragon, Archie did Y for Yangtse River and Dylan did K for Kung Fu. We also made Koi fish. Koi fish are Chinese fish. Our three Chinese visitors helped us write Chinese characters and did paper cutting. What do you like about China?

King Pig is a story about a pig who is mean.

He tries to make the sheep like him but they don’t because he does mean things to them.

In the end King Pig felt sorry. He made new coats for the sheep to say sorry. He was starting to be nice.

The Windy Farm

by Doug MacLeod and Craig Smith

A family live at windy farm on the top of a hill. It is so windy that sometimes the pigs even blow away. One day mum, the inventor in the family, has a great idea. They build lots of windmills on their farm. The windmills make lots of electricity and the family become rich because they sell the electricity to the power company.

In the end they are have enough money to build themselves (and the pigs) a wind proof house so they don’t blow away any more.

Day and Night

This week we have been learning about why we have day and night.

We have been observing the sun as it moves across the sky.

In the morning it was low in the sky, near the sandpit.

At 12:30 the sun was high up in the sky.

Where do you think the sun will set?

What do you know about day and night on Earth?
